University of Michigan Gospel Choir visits Kenwood

On March 24 the University of Michigan Gospel Choir will minister in song at the 11:00 am service at Kenwood United Church of Christ. Kenwood Bids Farewell to Rev. Dr. David Stewart

On February 24 the Kenwood congregation along with the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the United Church of Christ bid farewell to Rev. Dr. David Stewart after 17 years as he leaves Chicago to begin his tenure as Sr. Pastor of New Hope United Church of Christ in Glen Rock, PA. Kenwood Christmas Party-a jolly good time!

Kids and adults alike had a wonderful time at this year’s Kenwood Christmas party held December 8.  Santa put smiles on all the little one’s faces and they had a ball playing in the bounce house.  There was plenty to keep everyone busy including a gingerbread house contest and the ever popular ornament decorating contest.  Adults enjoyed the humor of DJ, BLT and oh, let’s not forget the delicious lunch served to all.  It was such a joy serving the…

PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

On October 14 Kenwood celebrated the first pastoral anniversary of Rev. Lisa M. Goods.  Special guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Ozzie E Smith, Jr, from Covenant USS gave a moving and motivating sermon as well as a soul stirring instrumental solo.  Our thanks to the choir who provided the music for the afternoon.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE BLACK PANTER

Kenwood members and their families, as well as community members were treated to a free showing of the record breaking movie, BLACK PANTHER, on the church lawn, Friday, August 17.  We had a lot of fun watching the residents of Wakanda and the message of the movie continues as Pastor Lisa preaches a sermon based on the lessons learned from the BLACK PANTHER.

I Sing Because I’m Happy …

The Kenwood sanctuary was filled glorious music on July 29 as over 40 members of various Chicagoland churches came together to give glory to God.  The concert was the culmination of a 2 day workshop presented by clinician, Julian Goods, son of Pastor Lisa Goods. Julian is a senior at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, majoring in choral conducting and a noted vocalist and organist.  Listeners were blessed with gospel music as well as anthems.  This event was  presented…

Time for a Taste!

Kenwood’s annual summer festival, A Taste of Kenwood, was held Saturday, July 14, 12-6pm.  As always there was  plenty of great food, a video game truck and a lots of other fun activities, including a visit from our local firemen.

Kenwood Recognizes Graduates

On Sunday, June 24, Kenwood recognized its graduates.  College, high school and 8th grade grads were honored.  Those students entering college will also be receiving trunks with much needed supplies donated by the Kenwood congregation. Summer activities planned for Kenwood

There will be plenty to keep Kenwood members busy this summer as we plan several events for the church and community.  First up is Nurses Day, June 10th at 3:00pm, with Guest Speaker, our own Rev. Yoruba Brewer.  The the men of Kenwood take charge on Men’s Day, which coincides with Father’s Day, June 17th at the 11:00am service.  Rev. Nubian Kings & Queens Charity Gospel Extravaganza

The Nubian Kings and Queens present their 20th Annual Charity Gospel Extravaganza at Kenwood on April 28 at 6.00pm.  This year’s musical guests include the Victory Travelers, the Genessee Travelers, Marguerite Gatling and the Inspirational Charms, the Mixon Singers, the New Faith Gospel Choir, and Dean Jones & Company.  Marilyn Frizzle from WCVE, 1450AM will MC the event.  Proceeds are donated to charity.

College Students Volunteer at Kenwood

Students from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA recently spent a few days volunteering at Kenwood’s soup kitchen during their spring break.  Pastor Lisa Goods, a Pittsburgh native, really enjoyed sharing stories about her home town.  The students volunteer every year as a part of their missionary service.

Making Disciples
